MAYANGWA COMMENDS HH GOVERNMENT OVER K17.8 BILLION TREASURY RELEASE

By Chali Mulenga

LIVINGSTONE – Aspiring Livingstone Central Constituency parliamentary candidate Gracious Dilon Mayangwa has commended President Hakainde Hichilema and Government for releasing K17.8 billion in April 2026 towards public service delivery, infrastructure development, social protection programmes and economic recovery.

Mr Mayangwa said the Treasury releases demonstrate Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and strengthening development across the country, including in Livingstone Constituency.

He said the allocation of funds to sectors such as road infrastructure, water development, health, education and social protection will have a direct impact on the lives of ordinary residents.

“The release of these funds shows Government’s seriousness in addressing developmental challenges and improving service delivery. Constituencies like Livingstone stand to benefit greatly from these investments,” Mr Mayangwa said.

He particularly welcomed the release of K1 billion towards the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), saying the initiative continues to create opportunities for community development and youth empowerment.

“CDF has become an important tool for taking development closer to the people. Communities are now able to identify and implement projects that directly respond to their needs,” he said.

Mr Mayangwa said increased funding towards water infrastructure projects is significant for Livingstone, which has continued to experience water supply challenges due to ageing infrastructure and growing demand.

“The allocation towards water infrastructure is important because Livingstone has been facing serious water stress. Investments in this sector will help improve the lives of residents and support tourism activities,” he said.

He also welcomed the K758.6 million allocated to road infrastructure projects, saying improved roads are critical for economic growth and tourism development in the tourist capital.

“Livingstone depends heavily on tourism and good road infrastructure is essential for business growth, transport and attracting investment,” he said.

Mr Mayangwa further praised Government for continuing to fund social protection programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer Scheme, noting that vulnerable households in Livingstone have benefited from the programme.

“The continued support towards vulnerable families through social cash transfers is helping many households cope with economic challenges,” he said.

He also described the release of funds towards procurement of drugs and medical supplies as a positive step in strengthening the health sector.

Mr Mayangwa said President Hichilema’s administration has demonstrated commitment to fiscal discipline, economic recovery and inclusive development through consistent Treasury releases.

“We are seeing a Government that is focused on restoring economic stability while ensuring that development reaches ordinary citizens,” he said.

Mr Mayangwa urged local communities to take advantage of Government programmes such as CDF, youth empowerment initiatives and infrastructure projects to accelerate development in Livingstone Constituency.
